Site Challenge
Parts of the Houston region sit over active surface faults that can slowly offset foundations, pavements and utilities. Before planning a Waller County development, the owner needed to know whether any known or suspected fault traces crossed the property.
Work Performed
Quartet Engineers carried out a preliminary surface-fault study: a desktop review of published fault maps, aerial imagery and prior studies, followed by field reconnaissance of the property to look for surface expressions of faulting. The findings were used to flag any areas that would need further investigation before building.
Deliverables
A preliminary fault study report summarizing the desktop review, the field reconnaissance findings, and recommendations on whether further fault investigation was needed.
