Site Challenge
Utility trenches along a busy highway corridor are backfilled in lifts under traffic and schedule pressure. Poorly compacted backfill settles under the pavement later, so every lift had to be tested before the next went in.
Work Performed
Quartet Engineers provided construction materials testing for the commercial utility installation along US Highway 90A in Richmond: field density testing on trench backfill lifts, and concrete sampling and compressive strength testing on structures and encasements, with cylinders tested in Quartet's A2LA-accredited laboratory.
Deliverables
Daily field reports, backfill compaction test reports and concrete strength reports documenting that the utility work met the project specifications.
